If you want to deal with zero customer service, double the price of propane than other providers, and strong arm policies, Osterman Propane is your company! I have been a customer for several years, dealt with their poor customer service follow-up for convenience, but my last interaction is it with them. I called twice in the first week of June to have someone come out and move the tank due to zoning issues. I explained the emergency need, twice. No call backs, ever. So I contacted Suburban Propane. No only did they fix my problem, move the tank, but also came in at half the price I was paying Osterman. Half the freaking price for propane. They had everything done within a week. Its now July 9th, a month after I reached out to Osterman, and I called to cancel my account and was told there was a $250 tank pickup fee. hahaha. You can't make this crap up. Its $250 for them to come out, take their tank away because of their lack of service for their customers. Your company is a joke, and no wonder you have a 1 star rating across hundreds of reviews online. BTW, I will be disputing your $250 fee, and reviewing this experience across every online platform that will accept one.

Terrible experience with this company. We called to schedule a filling as we ran out of propane. We thought the dispatcher was helpful when they put us on the "priority list"...but when we called back three days later it turns out priority list means at least 6 days after the original call! Leaving your customer for 6 days without heat or hot water is no way to treat someone, but when you're the only one who can supply the tanks I guess you can treat them however you want.

One of the worst experiences I’ve had as a home owner or renter with a propane company. I will be seeking alternative options once this is resolved. Waited 6 months for a tank swap promised back in October with a refund of $401 for the remaining gas. Team shows up unannounced in late March when my wife is home alone to do the service on the property. Automatically charged $157 on a card I had no idea they had on file for gas that was already existing on my property and had to call to get the payment voided so my other bills wouldn’t bounce bc of the unexpected delivery. Was told I could pay the bill at my leisure bc of the inconvenience and they took my card off auto-pay. This was Monday 03/23. It took 5 days void the payment, all the bills bounced anyway. Called again 03/28 to inquire about refund I hadn’t recieved. Was told they would call back before 12 and never did. Closed all weekend. At this point my frustration is pretty high so I took the following Monday off to see if there would be any progress, but nothing. Today on 04/01 I recieved a $244 refund which was $157 less than what was promised over the last 10 days fighting them. Turns out, they decided to refund me less than what was promised to auto-pay the bill with a card that’s not on auto-pay to satisfy a balance they told me I’d have the ability to pay at my leisure. So in some legal loophole, they were able still take their money and refund me less than what was promised, despite the reassurances I’d be able to pay at my convenience after this debacle. This was money I budgeted to receive for a car payment which is now late bc of their poor service. At this point, it’s about them following through on their word. Luckily, I’m able to advocate for myself against their predatory behavior while others less fortunate or elderly are taken advantage of by companies like this.

I have had extremely negative experiences both times I needed to interact with Osterman. Most recently, I called to request a re-fill because one of my tanks was empty. It took almost a week for someone to come and re-fill the tank, and aside from a text message 1 day in advance I had no notice of what time (or even a time window) that the delivery would happen. The technician knocked on my door after the tank was filled, but waited maybe 15 seconds before returning to the truck. He left a bill at the front door and a small notice that they TURNED OFF the propane because the company mistakenly assumed that our furnace is propane (I specifically told the person on the phone twice that our house is not heated by propane so would not need to re-light the pilot before using the fuel). Now that they've turned off the fuel, I called at 3pm on a Friday (the day of delivery, as soon as I found out they turned it off) and was told that this was "after hours". Never heard back, and still no one has come back to turn on the tanks. I have waited on hold for hours but have still not spoken to anyone since Friday. This is now over a week that I haven't had the ability to use my stove, oven or dryer.

Would leave zero stars if that was possible. Haven't used propane since I moved in, I don't use the heater than runs off propane. They've been charging me for propane I don't use. I've spent 2 weeks trying to get a manager on the phone to close my account, they make it literally impossible to close your account. I now am contacting the attorney general of CT as well as the public utilities regulatory authority as well as the better business bureau.
