They have always been very helpful in fixing my appliances when I was doing it myself. They are also affordable on house calls when I had them put to fix my washer.

Not sure if they don’t want business, just have horrendous customer service, or maybe they’re just too lazy to show up, or perhaps don’t have the integrity to call customers back and be honest. Who knows… whatever it is, here’s my experience: I called the first time on a Friday morning when my dryer stopped getting hot. The guy told me they’d be out later that day. Never heard from anyone and nobody showed up, so I called back around 4:30pm. Bear in mind, I’m really easy going about this stuff, so I’m always super polite on the phone. And I really wasn’t in a rush, so I wasn’t too worried about it, but a phone call letting me know would’ve been considerate. I was told their boiler went out and the guy had been running around trying to find parts for that. It was brutal cold, and a winter storm was coming, so of course I completely understood. We then got a ton of snow over that weekend. But by Tuesday the roads were fine, so I called and checked in to see if there was an update on when they might be able to come out. Again, very accommodating and polite. I was told “I’ll give the guy a call and have him reach out”. I never heard back the entire rest of that week. The following Monday (a week later), I politely tried again. Was told the same thing, “I’ll give the guy a call and have him reach out”. And again, never heard back the rest of week #2 either. I tried yet again the next Monday, and politely asked what the deal was cause if it would be another couple weeks, then I might have to figure some things out (I have 2 kids and a lot of laundry). I was told it definitely wouldn’t be that long, and was just told again that “I’ll give the guy a call and have him reach out”. No apologies for it taking so long. Not even an excuse/reason. Well, another week passed by with no word. After the third week and still no call, we ended up just going out and found a used dryer for less than the repair would’ve cost. I still have the dryer, which is nicer than the use one I bought, and would still love to fix it if they had bothered to ever call. But as of today (3/14/26) it’s been over a month since the last time I called them (2/5/26), so almost 2 months since my first call to them (1/23/26). I deliberately waited to try and be fair before posting this, but there’s just no excuse for such poor customer service. This is a business that doesn’t seem to care about customers at all. Quality businesses don’t make customers repeatedly call back just to not be forgotten. But, I guess they just have so much business, and make so much money, that they don’t need to be considerate of potential customer’s time. Good for them I guess, but I won’t be wasting any more of mine waiting for them to call me back. Full disclosure, I did call other repair companies when I got frustrated, but every one I tried was one of those “lead generating services” with a foreign call center (where they put you in touch with a local technician), and not a truly local business. I’ve used those before and you get subpar work for high prices. It was cheaper to just buy another dryer. That’s why I was so hopeful for a local company with reasonable prices, like Allen’s. But it’s meaningless if they never show up. Unfortunately, this is the state of things. Nobody wants to work, not enough people enter the trades, and everything is disposable.

Allen’s is definitely NOT the place for vacuum repairs! They had my vacuum for over 3 weeks before telling me they couldn’t repair it. When I picked it up, many parts were missing including part of the back of the machine. When I asked for the parts, they couldn’t find the parts and said they must have thrown them away. I learned later, on line, that most times, with this vacuum, a simple battery replacement in the handle, is the first thing to check. When I asked about that, they didn’t even know it used a battery in the on/off switch. So, consequently, I was left with a completely ruined vacuum without the parts they removed, and told to take my vacuum and leave. Extremely rude and should not be dealing with the public.

Called to make an appt for a fridge repair, they picked the day and time. Tried to call day of the appt to ensure they were still coming. Person I spoke with was unsure, finally contacted someone who knew something and they didn’t show up or cancel. Person reiterated ‘oh they should’ve called you we can no longer do it today’. Now I have to find someone else after waiting a few days without a fridge for them to show up for an appt that they scheduled! Really unprofessional
