I have bought several appliances over the past few years from Community Appliance for my rental property, and I had been fairly happy with them. But recently I bought a refrigerator that has had to be repaired three times for the same thing. The second time my renter told me that the repairman said that the problem couldn't really be fixed and that it would happen again. So now we are on the third time and I let the woman who answers the phone know that I would come in and pick out a different refrigerator and that I would be happy to pay the difference if the new one I bought cost more. Tonight, I received a call from the owner who told me that he had picked out a refrigerator that he would take over to the rental, but that when the warranty expired in three weeks there would be no further warranty on the new refrigerator. I told him this was unacceptable to me, clearly the refrigerator was damaged beyond repair when purchased. He repeated several times that there would be no warranty and that he would choose the replacement refrig. He interrupted me and spoke over me repeatedly. He also said that he, himself, went out as the repairman the second time and that he never told my tenant that it would not be possible to fix the refrigerator. I asked for his name and he told me Louis. I asked for his last name and he refused to provide it. Then he said I was yelling at him, which I don't believe I was. I simple repeated my request for his last name. I also asked him to spell his first name and he refused. It's easy enough to find his name with a search through the Oregon Secretary of State website. It is Luis Urueta. I certainly will not ever buy another appliance through Community Appliance.

I scheduled a repair on my freezer the week before for Friday noon to 2:30. I take time off work, clear my freezer, noon arrives and i’m ready…. 2:30 passes, and nothing. I call at 2:45, and am told that they they need to check with their tech. They call me back 10 min later that the tech had a family emergency. I get it. It happens. But failing to inform the scheduled appointments for an afternoon is a pretty big fail. They offer to reschedule for Monday and i request they waive their $100 appointment fee. The caller says they need to check with a manager. Thats fine. Just call me back in an hour. Then nothing. I shoulda read the other reviews before even scheduling them. Heed my warning fair reader…

I recently had a frustrating experience with Community Appliances. During a service visit, their technician replaced my thermostat and then reassembled my dryer incorrectly which caused additional damage. While they acknowledged partial responsibility by offering to cover the labor costs, they surprisingly expected me to pay for the damaged part (unrelated to the thermostat). Additionally, nobody there can seem to justify the offer being made. This experience left a sour taste, especially considering their initial willingness to "meet me in the middle" only to shift the financial burden onto me. As someone who values local businesses, I was/am disappointed by their customer service and refusal to fully rectify the situation. If you're considering Community Appliances for your needs, I would caution against it. Their approach to customer service and responsibility is concerning, and there are likely better options available in Portland.
